The Aurora Borealis

WE WANDER THE BATTLEFIELD OF
MICRO-MOMENTS ON A COSMIC CLOCK.
IN IT WE ARE LESS THAN SECONDS;
A SHORT FLUTTER OF LIGHT
THAT FADES QUICKLY TO DARKNESS.
IN THAT LIGHT, WE OPEN OUR SENSES
AND LOOK BRIEFLY INTO THE MIRROR.
FINDING OURSELVES, AS THE SETTLING DUST OF A GRAND EXPLOSION.
FALLING DEEPLY FOR WHAT WE HAVE WOKEN UP TO
AND LEAVING QUICKLY IN A STIRRING QUIETNESS.

My very first sighting of the Northern Lights, ever. Under the arctic skies of western Iceland in September of 2015. The locals couldn’t believe we actually saw the northern lights that time of year. And neither could we.
